Yishak Yohannes Yebio is an Eritrean-American writer, researcher, and environmental advocate who served as the Washington, D.C. Youth Poet Laureate, working at the intersection of conservation, climate justice, youth leadership, and public storytelling.

In his local community, Yishak has supported environmental education and conservation through Brookside Gardens and Croydon Creek Nature Center. He has also participated in Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts through the Chesapeake Action Committee, contributing to coastal cleanups and habitat restoration.

At the national level, Yishak serves on EarthEcho International’s Youth Leadership Council, collaborating on ocean conservation, water stewardship, and climate education. Through EarthEcho, he has represented youth perspectives on climate resilience, ocean protection, and water insecurity.

His advocacy extends into civic engagement and the arts. Through Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs, Civics Unplugged, High Seas Alliance, and NOAA, Yishak uses poetry, public policy, and storytelling to make environmental issues accessible and emotionally resonant, connecting conservation with environmental justice.

Across his work, Yishak seeks to make environmental advocacy interdisciplinary, community-centered, and accessible, connecting local conservation with global movements for ocean protection and youth leadership.
