María José (MJ) Jiménez Orozco

Born and raised in Mexico City, María José's passion for science and technolgy started from a young age due to her unending curiosity. Devoted to UN Models, Women's rights, and International Relations in highschool, MJ understands the sociopolitical implications of climate change and the need for an intersectional approach. María José is currently studying a Bachelor in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability at IE University in Segovia, Spain, where the High Impact Award Scholarship has granted her various opportunities to acquire the necessary skills to tackle multi-dimensional environmental challenges.

Being passionate about nature-based solutions and community-centered advocacy, MJ has served as President of Fashion and Photography Clubs, where she has used sustainability as a lens to redesign our material and emotional approach to nature and its resources. She currently leads the Sustainability Student Committee and has colaborated with the Spanish Association of Rural Women (FEMUR) to highlight women's role in climate change mitigation. As Comms lead at Green Speaking, she has used her creativity to promote environmental education.

María José started her work at EarthEcho as a Blue Carbon Ambassador and then continued as a Water Challenge Ambassador. She is eager to continue her work in environmental education, advocacy, and conservation with creative and practical climate action projects.
