David Sontag

Chairman Emeritus

David Sontag is the Chairman Emeritus of the Board of EarthEcho International, a leading environmental, educational non-profit founded by Philippe, Alexandra and Janice Cousteau, He is the Wesley Wallace Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies Emeritus and Director Emeritus of the Writing for the Screen and Stage degree program that he created for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the College of Arts and Sciences. He is an award-winning writer and producer and has written for Columbia Pictures, MGM, and Hollywood Pictures as well as CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox among others. Mr. Sontag has held important creative and executive positions at 20 Century Fox, NBC, CBS Films and ABC.


Mr. Sontag is on the National Advisory Board of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and is the past President of the Board of the Festival. He is on the Advisory Council of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and a past member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. Mr. Sontag is a Trustee of the North Carolina Symphony and in the past was the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Symphony and a member of the Executive, Strategic Planning and Program Committees of the Symphony. He is on the Board of the Santa Fe International Film Festival.  Mr. Sontag was the Founder of the Native Americas International Film Exposition and as well as a past Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the Aspen Music Festival and School. Mr. Sontag, a nominee for both the Writers' Guild and Humanitas awards, is listed in Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the World.
