Dev Katyal is a computer science student at the University of Waterloo and a passionate environmental leader committed to using technology for conservation.
Dev has led park and shoreline cleanups, invasive species removals, and awareness campaigns through programs like OceanWise Youth to Sea and the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s WILD Outside. He has completed over 400 service hours and presented his work at the Ontario Science and Technology Museum.
Dev's impact extends globally: as one of 25 Marine Plastic Ambassadors, he represented attending the Blue Paradox in Chicago. He also founded MarineMatch, an AI-powered android app that helps prevent overfishing by identifying fish species, already assisting local fishers in making sustainable choices, used by 1500+ fishers across Canada.
Dev is Terry Fox Scholar and RBC award recipient, passionate about developing scalable, tech-driven solutions to address climate challenges and promote ocean sustainability.
