"Marlin Xie is a Chinese American activist and artist from NYC pursuing a career in law. He is a freshman at Bowdoin College, intending to major in Government and minor in Environmental Studies. Marlin was a NOAA Youth Ambassador, EarthEcho International Marine Plastics Ambassador, and Our Climate New York Fellow. His work focuses on uplifting youth voices by making activism accessible and engaging.
Marlin is the Founder and current President of the Youth Oceanic Initiative (YOI), a global student-led organization dedicated to marine stewardship through creativity. Since 2024, YOI has directly reached 1,000+ youths across 30+ countries through its events, projects, online platforms, and Chapters program. YOI has amassed 250,000+ views across its social media pages, where it primarily shares educational posts and videos about our ocean planet. YOI has collaborated with many prominent environmental organizations which can be viewed on its Instagram page.
His extensive background in youth empowerment also includes working for storytelling nonprofits such as Youth Communication, It Gets Better, and BRIC Arts Media. Marlin’s a published writer, illustrator, graphic designer, and former gallery curator. Fun Fact: He is the 2024 Nautilus Expedition Patch Design Contest Winner!
Furthermore, Marlin is an alumni of the High School Law Institute at New York University, Freedom & Citizenship program at Columbia University, and Justice For All program in the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He is the 2025 recipient of the Jon Carlo Dominguez Award, demonstrating his commitment to education, civic engagement, and community inclusion."
