Sofía Nicole Sánchez Villamar
Growing up, Sofia Nicole Sanchez Villamar found herself on countless road trips across every inch of Puerto Rico. The feeling of warm sand beneath her feet, the sound of waterfalls echoing through the mountains, and the nightly chorus of coquíes nurtured her deep love for nature, shaping her into the person she is today. Now, at 17, Sofia is an active member of Surfrider Puerto Rico and the proud founder and president of her school’s Surfrider club. Her commitment to environmental and social justice runs deep, but her passion doesn’t stop there. She also advocates for accessible mental health care and dreams of pursuing a career in psychology, with a specialization in music therapy. In her free time, Sofia enjoys long walks with her dog Akira, getting lost in books, and, above all, immersing herself in music. She sings and plays piano in her school band, always eager to discover new songs to learn and share.Sofia is thrilled to be part of the Blue Carbon Ambassador Program. More than anything, she is grateful for the opportunity and determined to make the most of it. For her, nature has always been a constant—comforting, grounding, and inspiring. To care for it is not just a responsibility, but a calling we all share.
