Marlys Hernandez-Fitch

Marlys Hernandez-Fitch is currently a student at Tulane University studying Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Native and Indigenous studies. Raised in coastal Louisiana, she developed a deep appreciation for the environment and the communities whose lives are closely tied to the coast. Experiencing the effects of coastal erosion and climate change, inspired their passion for environmental advocacy.As a Blue Carbon Ambassador, Marlys Hernandez-Fitch is eager to expand their understanding of coastal ecosystem's, supporting coastal communities, and reducing climate impacts. They are especially interested in exploring how science, Indigenous knowledge and community engagement can work together to create sustainable environmental solutions. Through their academic studies and involvement in the Blue Carbon Ambassador program Marlys Hernandez-Fitch hopes to contribute to the protection and restoration of Louisiana’s coastal environment for future generations. They are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow and collaborate with others who are committed to environmental advocacy and conservation.
