Marlett Hernandez-Fitch

Marlett Hernandez-Fitch is a high school student from Dulac, Louisiana and an environmental activist dedicated to preserving the culture, stories, and ecosystems of her Gulf Coast community. Coming from a family of shrimpers, her passion for environmental advocacy began through witnessing the direct effects of coastal erosion and environmental loss on the bayous she calls home. She is currently involved in an ongoing documentary centered on environmental activism and storytelling to preserve the voices and traditions of her people. Marlett founded the Indigenous Peoples’ Club at her high school to bring awareness to overlooked issues while promoting solutions. She participates in cypress tree restoration projects, bayou cleanups, environmental conferences, and works alongside marine biologists in coastal restoration efforts. She is also a member of Bioneers, an organization focused on environmental solutions, Indigenous knowledge, and social innovation for ecological restoration and sustainability. Alongside being an athlete and active in multiple school organizations, Marlett hopes her efforts will inspire others to protect nature and value the communities connected to it. She is excited to begin her journey as a Blue Carbon Ambassador.
