Maev Douglas studies biology at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo California. With a passion for wildlife conservation, she has dedicated this past summer to networking and connecting with research and conservationists to address a local conservation issue. After noticing a population of California Newts experiencing an alarming rate of road based mortality, this sparked an interest in seeing what she could do to prevent it. By connecting with the Chileno Valley Newt Brigade, the Santa Lucia Sierra Club, and her university, she has now put together a volunteer and research effort to help address the issue this upcoming winter. Now, Maev is representing EarthEcho International as a 2025 Ocean Protection Ambassador, engaging youth in ocean conservation through educational outreach regarding Marine Protected Areas in order to conserve 30% of the ocean by 2030.
