Hi! My name is Kate Mumford, and I'm from Queens, New York City. I just graduated with a degree in Marine Biology from University of California, San Diego, but my love for the ocean began much before college. I've always been happiest in the water, whether that be in the ocean, the rivers in New York, or even just the touch tank at the aquarium. I love to read, swim, and listen to all sorts of music by the ocean (especially 80s rock). The water hasn't just been a place I love, but also a place where I learn and build community with people from all different walks of life- surfers, naturalists, kids, scientists, vacationers, locals, you name it. As a Water Challenge Ambassador, I want to connect with other people who share my love for the water, and bring this love to those who may not yet understand the joys of the waterfront. Through service and leadership that is based in my background of science, I hope to create a purposeful, meaningful, and long-standing community of people who are working to protect the urban marine areas and revitalize the native ecosystems that bring so much joy.
