Jon Wentzel

Jon Wentzel is a seasoned public relations and public affairs veteran. During his career, he has developed and led branding, corporate communications and public affairs campaigns for large companies and small organizations. Jon is currently the Vice President of communications at the Nuclear Energy Institute. A member of the Executive Leadership Team, he is responsible for all external and internal communications for the organization, overseeing a staff of sixteen. Jon’s portfolio includes industry-wide interactions with the media, content strategy and development for digital and non-digital channels, editorial services and publications, and the industry’s advertising and marketing communications. He also supports the government affairs and policy work of the organization.
Jon previously served as the U.S. Chief Client Officer for Burson-Marsteller. A member of the U.S. Leadership Team, Jon was responsible for enhancing the agency's service to existing clients. He ensured clients have access to the full range of services available through the global agency, provided training to develop the next generation of outstanding client service leaders, and provided counsel to account teams and clients. In addition to his client service responsibilities, Jon served as U.S. Practice Chair for the Consumer & Brand Marketing Practice from 2015 until 2017 overseeing the agency's entire U.S. portfolio of consumer marketing business and a staff of more than 80 professionals. From late 2016 until his departure, Jon served as the U.S. public relations led for the integrated WPP team established to service Walgreens Boots Alliance.
Prior to his work at Burson-Marsteller, Jon spent twenty years with global public relations firm Ogilvy Public Relations/Ogilvy & Mather. For ten years, Jon led the Corporate and Public Affairs Practices for Ogilvy's West region, including the agency's sustainability practice OgilvyEarth. He was responsible for business development, client service and retention of the client portfolio, and staff professional development. As a Practice Lead, Jon served on the region's executive committee responsible for overall business performance for the region.
Throughout his career, Jon has provided strategic counsel and support to a variety of government agencies, trade associations, major corporations and non-profit organizations. His clients have included the National Institutes of Health (NIAID), the American Chemistry Council, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Walgreens Boots Alliance and Ford Motor Company.
