Jafrin Zahir

Born and raised in New York City, Jafrin Zahir is an inquisitive and thoughtful environmental advocate with a focus on working to address global issue through pathways to curiosity, compassion, and action. Jafrin believes that change is happening on the ground in community-based ways and is committed to elevating marginalized and underrepresented voices within the climate movement.

Jafrin served as a Borlaug Scholar with the World Food Prize Foundation’s Youth Institute exploring relationship of water scarcity and sanitation to food insecurity in Angola, and examining innovative sustainable community-based solutions that improve access to clean water and public health, reinforcing her commitment to working towards environmental justice and equity.

Outside of her work as an environmental activist, Jafrin enjoys biking in Central Park, capturing the city through her camera, and utilizing the many green spaces New York has to offer. Jafrin also enjoys the quiet serenity of nature and in contrast, she enjoys more energized spaces for dialogue and action run by youth.

In her current engagement as an EarthEcho Blue Carbon Ambassador, Jafrin is looking forward to working with youth on ocean-based climate solutions, while collaborating and partnering with Youth leaders on how to manage, protect and steward coastal landscapes and ecosystems - toward a just and equitable sustainable future for all!
