Isabella Negrón Casillas

She was born into the welcoming recital of the coquís who awakened her senses and announced her nationality proudly. A nationality composed of tropical heats and salty aromas that swirl from the colorful coasts to the mystical mountains. She was born feeling rhythms of “sicá” and “yubá”, rumble under her feet, seducing her heart and love for music. Flavorful spices made their way into her mouth before she could even stumble her way into words.  Born into an archipelago filled with enrichment of the senses, Isabella was born Puerto Rican.

Raised as the daughter of a pastor and a teacher, Isabella was taught from a young age to cherish her culture and respect her homeland’s natural beauty. She’s spent the last 17 years exploring local nature and during the last 3 years of high school, she’s strived to protect it by being the vice-president of her school’s Surfrider club, participating in beach clean-ups, mangrove planting and joining projects focused on the restoration of coasts.

Soon, Isabella plans on pursuing her studies in the University of Puerto Rico where she will study to become an environmental lawyer and help organizations such as Surfrider PR protect their country’s natural resource.
