Gabriela Casuso

Colombia

Gabriela Casuso is a Colombian marine educator, science communicator, and youth ocean advocate. She is the founder of Proyecto Acuática, a youth-led initiative she created at age 10 to confront what she calls the “triple crisis of awareness”: ignorance, lack of interest, and misinformation about the ocean. Through this work, she promotes citizen science, early awareness, and a lifelong connection to the ocean across Latin America and beyond.

Over the past seven years, Gabriela has led educational programs, workshops, and digital campaigns that have reached more than one million people across Latin America, Europe, and Africa. Her work focuses on translating complex ocean science into accessible, culturally relevant storytelling that empowers young people to engage in marine conservation, civic participation and climate action. Through flagship programs like Charlas El Océano and the international Shark Convention, she connects youth directly with scientists and strengthens intergenerational dialogue around ocean challenges.

Proyecto Acuática is a global partner of the IOC-UNESCO Global Blue Schools Network, and Gabriela is a recognized Change Agent of the Latin American Marine Education Network RelatoOcéano. She is also a columnist and international speaker advocating for ocean literacy, youth leadership, and stronger youth participation in global ocean governance.
