Aurora Espasas

Aurora T. Espasas is a high school senior from Puerto Rico with a deep love for nature, sparked by childhood camping trips and a curiosity for exploring every corner of the island. Her interest in marine biology began a few years ago while surfing with her dad, which led her to understand the urgent need to protect coastal ecosystems. At school, she is a dedicated member of the Surfrider Club, where she participates in mangrove plantings, beach cleanups, and restoration conferences. She also belongs to the Environmental Club, engaging in visits to key ecological sites and leading projects to raise environmental awareness among her peers. Beyond school, Aurora volunteers with Chelonia, a sea turtle conservation program. There, she helps monitor nesting sites, collects data, and assists hatchlings on their journey to the sea — a role that has deepened her commitment to marine life preservation. In her free time, Aurora enjoys photography, surfing, and spending time with her pets. She is excited to be part of the Blue Carbon Ambassadors program and hopes to inspire her community to reconnect with nature and take meaningful action to protect it.
