Aska Burks
Leia Burks from Florida is a student in their natural resource conservation program at the University of Florida. They have helped with local rivers and neighborhood clean-ups. Their interest in environmental and sustainability issues came from watching natural documentaries when they were younger, an interest that only grew as they became more exposed to information through education, leading to them developing an interest in climate action, wildlife rehabilitation, Wetland conservation, and plastic pollution. They have completed studies on how fire affects shrub richness and abundance for future wildlife study, the management of the Sundarbans, and black kite's relationship with fire. Their goal in being an ambassador is to spread awareness of plastic pollution and learn more about the opportunities that are out there. They plan to spread awareness for a better plastic policy within their county, in hopes that starting small will in time make a momentous change.
