Abigail Atwood
Abigail Atwood is a 19-year-old environmental advocate from Wareham, Massachusetts. As a lifelong resident of her coastal community, growing up by the ocean has shaped both her passion for advocacy and commitment to environmental protection. Now in her second year as a NOAA Ocean Guardian Youth Ambassador, she remains driven to continue working on local conservation efforts and initiatives. In 2025, she was part of a community project to prohibit the clearcutting of a local Pine Barrens forest for a solar development that had the capacity to demolish a vital ecosystem and pollute the local wetlands. She has written for a youth-led publication, exploring concepts like the impacts of solar development and the emerging impacts of artificial intelligence and ""sustainable"" technology. As an Earth Echo Marine Plastics Ambassador, she hopes to continue to pursue her interests in environmental writing and addressing the impacts of pollution and unsustainable development, while deepening her understanding of marine policy and implementing these tools to combat plastic pollution issues.
Outside of environmental work, she is currently working on the Harvard Medical School Future MD Pre-College Program and hopes to attend college in the fall with a double major in pre-med and environmental science.
