Announcing the 2026 High Seas Youth Ambassadors

EarthEcho International and the High Seas Alliance are thrilled to announce the 2026 cohort of High Seas Youth Ambassadors! This year’s program unites six outstanding young ocean advocates from Australia, Colombia, Nepal, Peru, Uganda, and Uzbekistan and equips Ambassadors with the funding, tools, and resources needed to lead creative campaigns to build the public and political momentum needed to advance additional Treaty ratifications and support the Treaty’s implementation.

“Young people continue to shape global conservation efforts and our High Seas Youth Ambassadors stand at the forefront of this momentum,” said Philippe Cousteau Jr.. “Their energy, creativity, and leadership are critical to accelerating progress and ensuring the High Seas Treaty is fully implemented to protect our ocean for generations to come.”

Rebecca Hubbard, Director of the High Seas Alliance, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “The involvement of youth in the ratification and implementation of the High Seas Treaty is critical to ensuring we achieve effective and equitable conservation of high seas biodiversity - especially now, as the Treaty has entered into force and the work of implementation begins in earnest. The impact of our 2024 and 2025 Youth Ambassadors on their communities and political leaders has been extraordinary, and we are thrilled to welcome this new class of inspiring young leaders in 2026. The High Seas Alliance is proud to continue this partnership with EarthEcho and deeply grateful for the energy and commitment these young people bring to protecting our shared ocean.”

The High Seas Treaty is a cornerstone of the global goal to protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 - a critical target to reverse biodiversity loss and restore ocean health. Spanning nearly two-thirds of the ocean, the high seas include some of the planet’s most ecologically important ecosystems. With the Treaty officially entered into force, the 2026 Ambassadors will build on the work of their peers with a focus on effective implementation and expanded ratification of the Treaty.
