EarthEcho International Welcomes New Cohort of Water Challenge Ambassadors to Lead Local Water Protection Efforts
[Washington, DC] (September 18, 2025) In celebration of World Water Monitoring Day, a global initiative aimed at bringing awareness to the importance of water quality, EarthEcho International proudly welcomes a dynamic new cohort of youth leaders to its Water Challenge Ambassador Program. Co-founded by Philippe Cousteau, Jr., EarthEcho is a global nonprofit with a mission to protect and restore our ocean planet. Through the Water Challenge Ambassador Program, a year-long initiative, young changemakers (ages 14–22) are empowered with the tools, training, and support needed to lead local efforts to monitor and protect critical water resources.
Through hands-on water quality testing, peer education, and community engagement, Ambassadors become powerful advocates for clean water in their own backyards. These youth are on the front lines of EarthEcho’s Water Challenge, a global community science program that has engaged over 1.8 million participants across 157 countries in safeguarding the waterways that sustain life and communities
“Every community, no matter where it is, needs clean water to prosper,” said Philippe Cousteau, Jr., founder of EarthEcho International. “EarthEcho’s Water Challenge Ambassadors are the next generation of stewards tasked with protecting our nation's valuable water resources, through advocacy and implementation of water improvement solutions in their local communities.”
This year, 43 new Ambassadors have been selected through a competitive application process and will be joined by 11 returning youth leaders continuing an additional year of impact. Together, this cohort will collaborate with peers from across the U.S., lead local monitoring events, and inspire others to become stewards of their water systems. Over the next 12 months, Ambassadors will take part in intensive training, community science projects, and storytelling initiatives - all designed to elevate youth voices and drive measurable environmental change.
The EarthEcho Water Challenge Ambassador Program is made possible through the generous support of Xylem Watermark, the company’s corporate social responsibility program.
“These dedicated Water Challenge Ambassadors are driving positive change in their communities, and Xylem is honored to support their leadership!” said Emma Housman, Sr. Director, Sustainability & Social Impact, Xylem
