Nicolás Chesta

Youth Leadership Council and Board of Directors Member

Nicolás is a senior student at Altazor High School in Chile. In 2017, he was selected to be a Chilean Youth Ambassador for a U.S. Department of State program where the main goal was to give young leaders the opportunity to learn essential techniques to engage people to promote a sustainable project that will have an impact in the future.

He also developed a verticals gardens project with different students of all ages from his school. The objective was to create green areas in a school that previously lacked plants. He formed a group of youth who helped him to inform, engage and do the activities that the vertical gardens needed. The project found success with the recognition from the school and community. The project was also recognized by the Youth Ambassadors program and World Learning as one of the four best developed projects in the year and one of the best related to the environment.

In 2018, he was selected to be an Opportunity Program student. This program is from the U.S. Department of State and it has as an objective to facilitate the way of high performance students to study a career in the prestigious universities of North America by a full scholarship provided by the colleges. He was selected from many candidates of his country and he has the privilege to be the only one from his region, due to his great capacity, initiative, creativity and organizing ability, both in his work as a student and in extra-curricular activities. He is excited to have the opportunity to study in the United States.

He is currently doing extracurricular activities in different areas, such as, a volunteer as a trainer in a Super Genius Seminar, an organization that focused to teach to students useful techniques about studying and improving exam scores. He participates in the youth group of the Christian Union Church who supports different humanitarian causes. He plays chess competitively and won first place of his commune. He also enjoys practicing different sports like kayaking, biking and swimming.
