EarthEcho International Announces Rosemary Trent as New Executive Director

Washington, D.C. (October 15, 2025) – EarthEcho International, a nonprofit organization founded by Philippe Cousteau, Jr., to build a global youth movement to protect and restore our ocean planet, announced that Rosemary Trent will serve as its new Executive Director, effective October 15, 2025.

Trent brings over two decades of experience with international non-governmental organizations, most recently serving as the National Director of Right to Play USA and previously as Director of Foundation Partnerships at Partners in Health. Her leadership and partnership-building skills have been beneficial to young people around the world and have positioned her to lead EarthEcho in this new chapter. Trent will succeed Mia DeMezza, who led EarthEcho for nearly 20 years, transforming the organization from a new nonprofit into a global movement that spans over 150 countries. DeMezza worked closely with the EarthEcho Board of Directors throughout the search process and will continue to serve in an advisory capacity through a transition period.

“EarthEcho International is thrilled to welcome Rosemary Trent as our new Executive Director,” said EarthEcho International Board of Directors Chairperson Alex Morrison. “Rosemary’s passion for empowering young people to advocate for their communities, paired with her exceptional leadership experience, makes her the perfect fit to guide our mission forward.”

“Under Mia’s exceptional leadership, EarthEcho has grown to become a leading ocean education organization mobilizing millions of youth globally. I know she will continue to have an enormous impact on the world in her next leadership role,” said Philippe Cousteau, Jr., founder of EarthEcho International. “I am very excited that Rosemary is joining our team as our new executive director; her decades of experience combined with her passion, and extraordinary ability to drive impact are a perfect fit to continue EarthEcho’s strategic growth.”

As Executive Director, Trent will work closely with EarthEcho’s Board of Directors and partners to drive innovation in ocean, climate, and environmental literacy and policy, and further position EarthEcho as a global leader in youth-driven sustainability efforts.

As she steps into her role, Trent says, “I’m thrilled to join EarthEcho International and continue my lifelong work, empowering young people to lead change. The health of our ocean is inseparable from the health of our planet, and I believe the next generation holds the creativity, courage, and leadership we need to build a sustainable future for all.”
