Blue Carbon Ambassadors
At EarthEcho International, we recognize the power of the ocean as a source of solutions to the climate crisis. We also understand that access and connection to the ocean, and the opportunity to pursue careers that contribute to ocean-based climate solutions, is a privilege that all do not enjoy equally.
EarthEcho International's Blue Carbon Ambassador program engages BIPOC youth ages 17-20 from frontline coastal communities in North America in a hands-on professional learning experience designed to introduce participants to the role of blue carbon ecosystems (including kelp, seagrass, mangroves, and salt marshes) in fighting the climate crisis. This paid Ambassador program is specifically structured as an introductory program that requires no previous coursework or experience with ocean science or aquaculture. This is a chance to get your “hands wet” with coastal restoration for the very first time!
This year we’re accepting applications from the following regions where we are coordinating with local partner organizations to support Ambassadors’ coastal restoration efforts:
- New Orleans, USA
- New York City, USA
- Puerto Rico, USA
- Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
In 2025, Blue Carbon Ambassadors will:
- Join twice weekly virtual training programs interacting with industry leaders from June - August, 2025. During this period, Ambassadors will be guided through EarthEcho’s process to develop their own projects to support the restoration of blue carbon ecosystems in their home communities;
- Attend the 2025 EarthEcho Youth Ambassador Retreat August 6-10, 2025 in San Diego, California, where participants will experience blue carbon ecosystem research facilities and regenerative ocean aquaculture through field experiences. Ambassadors will also participate in workshops to finalize their community based projects and take part in peer to peer learning exchanges with members of the EarthEcho Youth Leadership Council.
- Develop and implement a project to support the restoration of blue carbon ecosystems in their local communities in collaboration with the community based organization. Projects will be developed during the summer and executed between August 2025-March 2026, with Ambassadors committing to attend monthly calls during this time frame to support project implementation.
All travel expenses for in-person experiences will be covered for Ambassadors who successfully complete program expectations. Ambassadors from Canada or Mexico must have a valid and up to date passport to travel to the United States as required based on their nationality. EarthEcho International does not provide support in securing passports or visas for travel.
