ocean protection ambassadors

The future sustainability of life on earth and the health of our planet is inextricably linked to the health of our ocean. Global concern regarding environmental degradation and anthropogenic impacts on marine ecosystems has led to urgent calls for countries to meaningfully protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 (30x30) to preserve what remains of ocean biodiversity and restore the ocean to abundance. Young ocean advocates around the world play a key role in advancing these ocean protection goals.

In 2024, the Ocean Protection Ambassadors (formerly OceanEcho 30x30 Fellows) will equip eight youth leaders ages 17-22 with funds and training to design and execute campaigns mobilizing communities to help advance ocean protections and achieve the goal of protecting 30% of America’s waters by 2030 (30x30).

EarthEcho is partnering with the National Ocean Protection Coalition to offer this unique opportunity for youth leaders to play an active role in achieving the 30x30 ocean goal. The 2024 Ambassadors will receive campaign planning guidance and training from EarthEcho International and mentorship from partners including Conservation Law Foundation, Friends of the Mariana Trench, the Northern Chumash Tribal Council, the Pacific Remote Islands Coalition, the Surfrider Foundation, and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium.
