World Water Monitoring Day 2020

The “new normal.” It is an expression that we’ve heard frequently as people and communities around the world have confronted and adapted to a viral pandemic that has turned the world upside down. But was the “old normal” actually safe or sustainable? Maybe normal is not what we need now, maybe we need something else.

Nearly 800 million people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water. Every two minutes a child dies from a water-related disease. But we can do better. Whether the challenge is water scarcity due to climate change, access to clean water and sanitation, building affordable, resilient infrastructure, or simply connecting citizens to the water that sustains them, today’s solutions require strong leadership, innovation, and collaboration. While the scale of the global water crisis seems overwhelming, we have the solutions at hand...we CAN “Solve Water” and that should be a call to action for each of us!

That’s why we need each one of YOU to join EarthEcho International in September as we celebrate World Water Monitoring Day (September 18) with a week full of activities to connect to water resources and inspire action.

Each year we mark World Water Monitoring Day with community events across the globe that focus on taking action to investigate the health of our local bodies of water. While we continue to support people joining us by testing water quality at their local river, lake, estuary, or ocean, we must keep one another safe. This year, we are working with incredible partners like Xylem Watermark and the Water Environment Federation to provide virtual events throughout the week to empower citizens and students around the world to take action to solve the global water crisis.

Register today to join EarthEcho International and I as we launch a campaign to Solve Water with our founding sponsor Xylem Watermark through any of these actions:‍‍

Screen the film: Host a FREE screening of Brave Blue World for your class, school, or organization. Running time 48 minutes. This film is offered through a collaborative partnership with the Water Environment Federation, and is only available September 14th-18th.
