Suzie Hicks
Online Communities Coordinator
Suzie Hicks (she/they) is an environmental educator and media maker based in New York City. In her work, she navigates the intersections between entertainment, education, environmental justice, and community activism. Her work particularly emphasizes the power of online learning communities — both with youth advocates and educator allies. Suzie has joined the EarthEcho team after 4 years as an educator engagement specialist at PBS SoCal - the PBS KIDS station serving Southern California.
Suzie graduated with their master’s degree in Climate and Society at Columbia University. She had the pleasure of being a part of the inaugural class of the Columbia Climate School, an interdisciplinary program aimed at supporting diverse professionals in the sustainability field. In this program and beyond, they have investigated climate communication for children's media through academic theses, children’s books, and television series.
As the online communities coordinator, Suzie plays an essential role in managing online learning and membership communities, helping them grow into thriving forums that uplift collaboration. She curates and moderates EarthEcho’s vibrant online community of youth environmental advocates and educators who support them. In this role, Suzie aims to empower people, conversations, and experiences to further the protection of our ocean planet.
