I have always been interested in Marine Science. I became interested when I started watching Seaquest and Robert Ballard came on at the end of every episode to talk about something marine science related. I finally got to achieve my dream of doing marine science when I got accepted to Coastal Carolina University. While here, I've gotten involved in the Society of the Undersea World. After only a year in the club, I am now running it. One of our goals each month is to do a beach sweep at Myrtle Beach's Huntington Beach State Park. We spend about an hour or so walking down the beach cleaning it up. Since we've been doing our sweeps, garbage on the beach has reduced.
Ever since I saw BBC/Discovery Channel's Blue Planet series, my interest in conservation has grown. Since seeing the documentary on the DVD's, I haven't eaten fish. Everytime I'm around my family, I'll get into a rant about conservation (which makes my mom mad) and how we need to change our habits to help conserve marine species.
Currently, I'm working on a paper about marine biodiversity and conservation that I hope to get published. I eventually want to go to Scripps Institute of Oceanography and enroll in their Master's program for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation. With this degree, there is so much I hope to accomplish. I want to go around to high schools across the country and inform students about how they can help.
The ocean is my passion.
