2 Meet Keith
“I’ve been diving for over fifteen years and have learned first hand about the role the oceans play within our global marine environment. For me, inspiration comes from the undulating blue water filled with spectacular corals, fish, and marine mammals, which I incorporate into my current art projects.”
— Keith A. Ellenbogen
As a professional digital artist, I have been focusing on implementing innovative technologies for creative inspiration and artistic expression. I have a Masters of Fine Arts in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design in New York City. Combining my passion for education, innovation, and design, I have been teaching as a part-time faculty member in the Photography Department at Parsons School of Design. Both the graduate and undergraduate courses I teach focus on exploring the boundaries of visual aesthetics and technology.
Fascinated with life beneath the sea, I volunteered at the age of sixteen as an assistant aquarist at the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. Working within an aquarium setting, I learned first hand about the role the oceans play within our global marine environment. My first experience underwater was within the cold but beautiful waters surrounding Rockport, MA. Today I am a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Boston Sea Rover, and author of Scuba Talk — A Guide to Underwater Communication.
With the advent of Internet technology, I also grew interested in interactive design. I was hired as an art director at Grey Worldwide, New York, to design their first global intranet site, logo, and brand identity for the 457 Grey partner companies worldwide with an office in Kuala Lumpur. At Digitas, New York, I was responsible for managing, designing, and implementing the visual standardization for AmericanExpresses.com’s 80,000 web pages.
As a videographer I created a documentary on glass blowing entitled Inspirational Glass. Additionally, I’ve received the Peter Gimbel / Boston Sea Rover Underwater Videography Grant in collaboration with my efforts to produce a series of public service announcements for EarthEcho International entitled Critical Impasse.
Today I am currently pursuing my Fulbright Fellowship to create an interactive documentary on Malaysia’s Coral Reefs. Please join me on my underwater journey.
