Slings and Arrows

Well, yet again live science has succumbed to outrageous fortune.  We were all prepped and ready to bring live science to schools all along the East Coast and Tropical Storm Katrina put a slight damper on our plans, in fact you might say we got washed out. However, we bounced back and managed to hatch a "plan B" and, more importantly, follow through with it.  This morning, we broadcast our first live show from the Aquarius Watch Desk to schools in Florida, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia and, of course, some of you may have watched it from the comfort of your homes or cubicles.

I have to say we have had a lot of fun putting this program together. It is a pilot of our commitment to exciting and inspiring learning.  Indeed, with all the budget cuts and focus on standardized testing that is going on in our country today, there is a real need for this kind of interesting, inquiry-based programming. Anything that gets people excited about the world they live in is vital because, believe me, all the standardized testing in the world won’t.

Welcome

“It’s easy to run around spouting off to the world how awesome you are because you use recycled toilet paper, wear organic cotton, and power your iPod using solar panels you implanted in your shoulder blades, but unfortunately, it’s nearly as easy to punch you in the nose for being arrogant about it.”

Well, maybe it’s not that easy, but you get the idea.  More than ever before we all have an opportunity to change our lifestyles in a positive, healthy, easy, and fun way.

Why, you may ask? Well, in a nutshell, this world is in serious trouble — there is no longer any doubt about that, no matter what governments, naysayers, and many corporations would have you believe. But, there is hope. When we founded this organization in 2000 we did so with a mission to inspire stewardship and in so doing, help to create an environmentally-sustainable future. Now, 5 years later, we continue that mission. This new web site is the next step for us and I hope you enjoy it. You’ll find all sorts of useful tools and information both about how you can be a better steward, as well as information on how we are fulfilling our commitment.

Think of this site as www.earthecho.org lite. Over the next few months, we will be adding a lot more tools, videos, information, games etc., and we invite you to be part of it.  Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about us, it’s about you. It’s about empowering all of us to be better citizens of this water planet … and have fun doing it.
