President and Chief Executive Officer
Board Member

Philippe Cousteau is the twenty-eight year-old son of Jan and Philippe Cousteau Sr., and the grandson of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau. As a member of the legendary family, Philippe is continuing the work of his father and grandfather by using media, experiences, and storytelling to empower people to use the resources that can restore and protect the ocean and freshwater systems that sustain life on Earth. He founded EarthEcho International with his sister and his mother to work towards these goals, and serves as the organization’s CEO.

Philippe is the Chief Ocean Correspondent for Animal Planet, where he is working on various ocean and water focused documentary programs, including "Ocean's Deadliest," which he completed after his co-host Steve Irwin was fatally wounded during their expedition; and "Springwatch" a six part series chronicling the emergence of spring in nature. Philippe is currently a host for a new Discovery Channel/BBC co-production called "Oceans." This pioneering series, filmed entirely in High Definition, will explore the state of our world's oceans and major seas through 8 one-hour episodes premiering in the fall of 2008.

Philippe has been featured in television and radio programs across the country, including "The Today Show," and "Larry King Live," and was recently the Power Player of the Week on "Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace." He has produced, directed, and written public service announcements for cable television about issues facing our environment.

Philippe, along with his sister Alexandra, was a guest editor on the November 2007 issue of Women's Health, the first magazine to ever feature a "Blue Issue." He has written articles for Sport Diver Magazine US and National Geographic Magazine and has lectured at such institutions as The United Nations, Harvard University, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, as well as museums, aquariums, and numerous schools and conferences.

Philippe serves on the Boards of Directors of The Ocean Conservancy, Marine Conservation Biology Institute, and the National Environmental Education Foundation; the Honorary Board of the Everglades Foundation; the Advisory Board of Discovery Communications Inc.’s Planet Green, the Algalita Marine Research Foundation, the Global Peace Film Festival, the Ocean Energy Council, and Oceana's Ocean Council; and is a member of the Smithsonian Institution's Ocean Initiative Council. He holds a Master's degree in history from the University of St. Andrews.

Philippe's travels have taken him diving, rock climbing, trekking, and snowboarding around the world. From expeditions in the highlands of New Guinea to war-torn Sarajevo, where he provided humanitarian aid, he has learned that exploring the connections between humans and the environment are as important as exploring nature itself.
