Joan Flocks

Joan Flocks is the Director of the Social Policy Division at the Center for Governmental Responsibility, University of Florida College of Law, where she teaches poverty law and environmental justice. She is also affiliate faculty within the School of Natural Resources and Environment and within the Center for Latin American Studies. Her current work focuses on inequities in natural and built environments – both in the United States and globally. Ms. Flocks has worked with low-income and immigrant communities in for nearly 20 years, most recently as an assistant professor and project manager in the UF College of Medicine focusing on pesticide exposure among Central Florida Mexican and Haitian fernery and nursery workers. She also worked for five years as a legal services attorney. Ms. Flocks received an M.A. in Latin American Studies and a J.D. from the University of Florida.
