Jack Chalk is the General Manager of Captain Don’s Habitat, a resort on the Caribbean island of Bonaire world famous for teaching and promoting environmental responsible scuba diving. He has been at Captain Don's for nearly twenty years and is a recognized expert on sustainable coral reef management. Mr. Chalk is a Board Member and past president of STINAPA Bonaire, a non-government organization that oversees conservation and management of the Bonaire National Marine Park, one of only 5 places worldwide to be designated as Model Marine Protected Area by the United Nations Environmental Program as well as the Washington-Slagbaai National Park. STINAPA Bonaire also oversees the conservation and management of Lac Bay, Goto Meer and Klein Bonaire, all of which are designated as International Wetlands of Importance by the RAMSAR Convention Treaty of 1971. He is also a current Board Member and past president of the Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association, and past president of the Bonaire Council of Underwater Resort Operators. He speaks worldwide on managing coral reefs, including as a regular guest lecturer at the Harvard Extension School Ocean Environments Program. Among numerous other honors, Mr. Chalk was awarded the first annual Ruth D. Turner Environmental Leadership Award in 2001 and the Scuba Schools International (SSI) Platinum Pro 5000 Award in 1993.
