George Buckley is Coordinator for the Certificate in Environmental Management program and the Research Advisor to the related Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) program at the Harvard Extension School. He has been scuba diving for over three decades and has been teaching high school and college students hands-on environmental science for nearly as long. Mr. Buckley has served as Chief Scientist on over a dozen Earthwatch expeditions, produced an award-winning NOVA television program, and has performed extensive marine research in the waters and reefs of Bonaire in the Antilles as the Director of the Marine Ecology Project there. He serves on many Boards, including those for the New England Aquarium, the Boston Malacological Group, the Boston Sea Rovers, and the Boston Biomedical Research Institute. Mr. Buckley recently won an Accolade Award for his work in Bonaire, and was awarded the 2001 Shattuck Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Harvard Extension School. His proudest life achievement is the donation of one of his kidneys to his beloved niece Valerie.
